Veterinary Referral Hospital of Hickory is seeking a full time Experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician to work in our Emergency Dept. Duties include client communication, patient care, laboratory testing, radiology, anesthesia, surgical assistance, and general technical duties. The successful candidate must be proficient in clinical laboratory procedures, medication calculations and administration, IV catheter placement, vital sign monitoring, compassionate animal restraint, triage, radiographic techniques and venipuncture. Two or more years of experience in veterinary medicine performing the duties of this position are required. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals – with assistance from other staff members for animals weighing over 50 pounds), ability to walk or stand for 10 to 12 hours (or longer shifts, as needed); frequently working in a bent position, ability to handle stressful situations, ability to complete assigned tasks, even if extended work hours are required in order to do so.
